A recent study by the Pew Research center shows that interracial marriages are on the rise in the US. According to the study, currently 1 in 7 marriages is interracial, with 9% of whites, 16% of blacks, 26% of Hispanics and 31% of Asians marrying interracially. I think is says something sad about the majority that whites are the smallest group in the mix, however, there is slight hope because while rates among Asians and Hispanics have stayed about the same since 1980, rates of interracial marriage for whites have doubled, and for blacks have tripled.

I’m not surprised that the highest number is for Asians – who are the smallest minorities. They will have a hardest time finding someone from their race. There are so few of them. This means over time they are most likely to marry outside of the race. Whites are least likely to have this problem since they are the dominant race. A white person is more likely to find someone of their own race. So, I don’t think you need to be sad about the percentage for whites – its most likely that those that are in such relationships are with Asians – the smallest minority. Numerically that makes sense.
